CLEP

The College-Level Examination Program or CLEP provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate college-level proficiency in introductory courses through a series of exams. Individual institutions decide which exams will be accepted and determine credit policies. Check your institution’s test and credit policies before registering. Check to see which CLEP tests are accepted by The University of Iowa.

If you are a UI student, you must have a clep_eligibility_form completed by your advisor to bring with you on the day of the test. Do not register for a CLEP test until your advisor has confirmed your eligibility to test.

CLEP Policies and Resources

CLEP credit policies for the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the UI College of Engineering are available at UI CLEP Credit.

Information on CLEP testing, study materials and the CLEP demo is available at CLEP.

How to Register

Visit the CLEP website to register for an exam. CLEP will issue you a ticket number once you select and pay for your exam.

Schedule Your Exam

If testing at a test center, use the test center search tool to find a test center and contact that center to schedule your exam. If testing with remote proctoring, go to the Proctortrack website, set up an account, and schedule your exam.

  • On the day of the scheduled exam, bring the ticket number issued by CLEP and one government-issued ID (such as a driver's license or passport) that includes your photograph and signature.
  • The last name on your ID must match the name on your registration ticket.
