Students who have taken ASL in high school or at another college and would like to continue in the ASL program must complete a placement test. Students with no prior ASL experience should register for ASL:1001. 

The ASL interview/placement test takes approximately one hour to complete. To schedule an appointment to take the exam, students should contact the ASL Program at ASL-Program@uiowa.edu. 

Prior to the placement test, students will need to provide the following information: the ASL courses they have completed and where they were taken, the textbooks used, whether their instructor used voice during instruction, and whether they are interested in pursuing or are considering the ASL Minor.
