International Students
International students with F-1 and J-1 visa types, complete their orientation process through International Student and Scholar Services.
Sign Up for Orientation
The orientation reservation system opens on March 4. Students who have accepted admission and paid the $325 acceptance fee are eligible to sign up for orientation program dates.
SOAR Page
The SOAR page will open on April 22 in MyUI, for students who have selected their orientation program weeks. New students must complete this page at least 1 week prior to their selected SOAR appointment date.
Becoming a Hawkeye
This encouraged 1-day orientation program on campus will include an Information Fair, presentations from campus offices, student small groups with Orientation Leaders and other new students, lunch, and a chance to get to know campus resources. Available only in June and July for summer and fall session start.
Student Online Advising & Registration
Once the SOAR page is completed, one week prior to your chosen date, you will sign up for your Student Online Advising & Registration (SOAR) appointment (approximately 45- 60 minutes) during your selected week. The meeting will be online with your academic advisor who will help you select and register for classes.
Placement Tests
New students may be required to complete placement tests prior to registering for classes. The University of Iowa offers placement exams in mathematics, chemistry, and some world languages.
