An Interview with Omar...

Describe your first semester at the University of Iowa. How did it align with your expectations before arriving to campus?

My first semester at the University of Iowa was a big transition. Getting used to college life and college expectations was something that took time to develop but was an amazing learning experience as well because I learned so much about myself and who I am as a person.

If you could go back in time, what might you have done differently in your first year at the University of Iowa?

If I could go back in time, I would have tried to meet more new people and put myself out there more. Your first year is really when you meet a lot of people and make the most connections with professors and peers. That is so advantageous to have and I wish I could have pursued that more.

How would you define a “successful student” at the University of Iowa?

A successful student at the University of Iowa is someone who studies what they are passionate about, involved outside of class in activities that they enjoy. They also know how to balance studying, sleeping, and socializing with friends.
