An Interview with Kris...
How would you define a “successful student” at the University of Iowa?
A successful student is a student that actively pursues the Iowa Challenge. The student engages with the University, as well as the Iowa City community at large. This student chooses classes that not only teach them about their focused academic major, but also challenges their way of thinking. This student finds ways to stretch themselves, moving past what is normal or comfortable for them in order to enhance and enrich their experience here. A successful student excels in their academic endeavors. A's aren't necessary to be a successful student; if a student puts all their effort into a course, if they show that they are doing all they can to improve, they are excelling. Finally, this student must serve to be successful. Service to those around us creates an environment of gratitude that makes it possible for all of us to live, grow, and learn here in Iowa City.
How are you involved within the University of Iowa and/or greater Iowa City community?
Currently, I am a chapter member of the University of Iowa's National Residence Hall Honorary. We represent and build up the top 1% of leaders within the residence halls here at Iowa through serving our community and helping to recognize all of the great people and events on campus. Also, I am the General Manager of the University of Iowa's radio station - 89.7 KRUI Fm Iowa City. We are Iowa City's source for alternative views, news, sports coverage, and music. Listen to us on the radio, online at krui.com, or through the Tunein app available on both Android and iOS devices.
