Before making your reservation

  • Confirm that your major is correct on your Admissions Profile on the MyUI student portal.
  • If you need to change your major, please call the Admissions Office at 319-335-1549. All major changes should happen BEFORE you select an orientation program. If you are unsure of what you want to study, choosing "Open" as your major will allow you to explore many areas.
  • If you intend to teach at the high-school level, indicate the subject area (history, English, chemistry, etc.) as your major.
  • If you have been admitted to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as having an "interest" in a major (such as elementary education or nursing), this does not guarantee your admission to another college within the University. Please contact those colleges directly to find out about their specific admission requirements.
  • Confirm your address. We will mail a confirmation letter with your orientation date to your address.
  • Bring the confirmation letter with you to orientation.

Making your reservation

  1. Reservations can be made for an orientation program after the acceptance fee is paid.
  2. Login to MyUI (myui.uiowa.edu) with your Hawk ID and Password.
  3. Click on the Admissions Profile link located on the right side of the page.
  4. Scroll down to the MY @UIOWA.EDU link and click to enter. Click the link to set up your university email account.
  5. Scroll down to the Health Insurance Requirement link and indicate your insurance status (setting up your email and indicating your health insurance are required before you are able to register for an orientation program).
  6. Return to your Admissions Profile and click on the Orientation / Registration link to select from a list of programs available for your major.

How your eligible program dates are determined

Orientation programs are scheduled based on advisor availability, and not all majors are represented at each program. When making your reservation on MyUI, you will see only program dates for which you are eligible.

First-year students enrolling for summer or fall are required to attend a two-day program during the summer. We offer two abbreviated one-day programs in August—only for students who are unable to attend a two-day program. Space in the August programs is limited. First-year students enrolling for spring and transfer students are required to attend a one-day program.

    Confirming your program date

We will mail a confirmation letter to the address and you will also be able to view your confirmed date on your Admissions Profile on MyUI. We will attempt to honor your first choice of program date, but this is not always possible due to limited space in the programs and advisor availability.

    Changing your reservation

If you need to reschedule, change your major, or change your residence hall lodging arrangement, call Orientation Services at 319-335-1497 at least 14 days before your program.

If you change your major after you have a confirmed orientation date, please call Orientation Services at 319-335-1497 to reconfirm your date. Changing your major may change your orientation date.
