Matching the expectations that students and families have of universities, and vice versa, is known to be a major factor in student satisfaction during the college years. Although the Family and Guest program is not required, we encourage parents to attend orientation to gain a better understanding of college life.

Family & Guest Program Agenda

Family and guest sessions, which are concurrent with student programs, focus on academic opportunities, university billing and financial issues, student health and safety information, and ways for family members to become part of the university community while helping their student make a successful transition to college life. A brief outline of our family and guest program is listed below.

Arrival time

Check-in for orientation runs from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm in the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU). Lunch is not built into the schedule so please plan to eat before or after checking in. There are several eateries in the IMU and a variety of options in the downtown Iowa City area, which is just a few blocks from our check-in location. The program begins at 1:00 pm.
