The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) outlines students’ rights when it involves their academic records, which include the right to review their records, and the right to determine who has access to their records outside the university’s administrative jurisdiction.
Students control the release of their academic information and records, including their admission profile, course schedule, grades, degree evaluation, financial aid, tuition, fees, and billing. After a University of Iowa student has created a guest account, the guest user can login via the MyUI homepage and view the information the student has allowed access to.
If a guest has any problems logging in, the user should contact the ITS Help Desk for assistance (firstname.lastname@example.org or 319-384-4357).
A guest account does not constitute a waiver of a student’s rights to confidentiality under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
