​The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) outlines students’ rights when it involves their academic records, which include the right to review their records, and the right to determine who has access to their records outside the university’s administrative jurisdiction.

Students control the release of their academic information and records, including their admission profile, course schedule, grades, degree evaluation, financial aid, tuition, fees, and billing. Below is information about how to create a Guest Account on MyUI to allow others to view confidential information.

To Create a Guest Account on MyUI:

  • Login to MyUI at myui.uiowa.edu with your HawkID and password

  • Click STUDENT INFOMRATION in the menu at the top of the screen

  • Click on MY GUEST ACCOUNTS located under the “My UIowa” section

  • Create a unique login and password for each guest

  • Select and assign access rights for each guest

  • Click the button to SAVE GUEST ACCOUNT

 

Guest Login:

After a University of Iowa student has created a guest account, the guest user can login via the MyUI homepage and view the information the student has allowed access to.

If a guest user has any problems logging in, the user should contact the student who created the account. The student will be able to reset the password for the guest user. No University official will be able to reset a guest user’s password. These accounts are under the control of the student.

A guest account does not constitute a waiver of a student’s rights to confidentiality under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
