An Interview with Ben...
What advice would you share with a new student about their first year at the University of Iowa?
Don't be afraid to reach out for help. The University wants you to succeed and will try to provide you with resources to do so, but only if you ask for them and seek them out.
If you could go back in time, what might you have done differently in your first year at the University of Iowa?
I would have come in with more of an open mind to changes in plans. I've found that often as soon as I feel I have a firm grasp on what the future holds, I turn out to be very wrong. I have learned to accept that I may not know what's coming next, but I can be ready for whatever does.
A sense of independence comes along with being a college student. How did you handle your "independence"?
I handle it with good time management. I keep a tight schedule from about 9:00 am to around 8:00 pm. After that, I put down my academic work and do what I want to do, whether it be working on a project for a student organization or just hanging out with my friends and watching TV.
